BENNINGTON TOWNSHIP
Regular Board Meeting

 

 

The Bennington Township regular board meeting was called to order by Clerk Donna Ash on June 5, 2023, 7:00pm, at the Township Hall.
Present: Jim Forsythe, Matt Dutcher, Cody Baker, Donna Ash.
Not Present: Lee Ash

Forsythe moved to appoint Matt Dutcher as chairperson in the absence of the Supervisor. Second by Baker. Motion carried.
Baker moved to approve the agenda as printed. Second by Forsythe. Motion carried.
Forsythe moved to approve the minutes for the May 1, 2023 meeting as printed. Second by Baker. All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
Forsythe moved to approve the Treasurer’s report as presented. Second by Baker. All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
Forsythe moved to approve payment of the bills as presented in the amount of $98,605.95. Second by Baker. All board members in favor. Motion carried.

Public Comment:
Sheriffs Deputy Clapp gave a monthly report with a total of 154 incidents for May
Ron DeHaas – spoke of the problems with the intersection of M-52 and Bennington, Hibbard, and Garrison Road, mentioning that they are dangerous and there is a need for left turn lanes.
Ron & Geri Kelly – Property standards complaint of a neighbor.
MMR – Kevin Allen – requesting $110 per household starting with payment in 2024 with the 2023 tax winter tax amount.
Co Comm Garber – Update of County activities.

Board Reports:
Library – Garber – Update
Plan Comm – D. Ash – Master plan update.

• Forsythe moved to contract with Rowe Professional Services Company for Master Plan Update Planning Services at a cost no toe exceed $10,500. Second by Baker. All board members present in favor. Motion carried.

New Business:
Fireworks Permit – Jon Nash

• Baker moved to approve Fireworks Permit for ACE Pyro, LLC for a fireworks display for Lake Manitou on July 3, 2023 from 9:30 pm – 11:30 pm with a rain date of July 9, 2023, liability insurance provided and Fireworks Permit for Jon Nash – MPAG for a fireworks display at Nash Nurseries on July 29, 2023 from 7:00 pm – 12:00am contingent on liability insurance. Second by Forsythe. All board members present in favor. Motion carried.

Web Site –

• Forsythe moved to pay for Dream Weaver for the Township Web Site Manager, Doug Cornell, at a cost of $239.89 + tax. Second by Baker. All board members present in favor. Motion carried.

Ambulance Special Assessment – Township discussed the options for a new special assessment to accommodate the increase cost from both SSESA and MMR.
Park – Signage/Trees/Benches/Ditch/Etc.

• Rules – Baker moved to have a sign made to place at the new park entrance with the rules and regulations. Second by Forsythe. All board members present in favor. Motion carried.
• Trees – Discussed the need for additional tress within the park.  Will get quote for trees this fall.
• Benches – Baker moved to purchase eight benches to place along the path in park and a bollard pole. Second by Dutcher. All board members present in favor. Motion Carried.
• Ditch – Discussed the road ditch in front of the park.

Roof – Hall/Barn/Pavillion – Obtain bids for new steel roofs.
